After thorough records were made, including notes, diagrams, rubbings and photographs of the existing structure and decoration, a schedule of treatment was devised:

  • Taking the books apart
  • Conservation of the plates
  • Adding paper guards
  • Making sections
  • Rounding the spine
  • Headbands
  • Covering
  • Endpapers
  • Finishing
