Thank you for your interest in visiting the official residences of Her Majesty The Queen.  The current demand for tickets is very high and we have had to temporarily stop accepting new bookings for Buckingham Palace and the garden. We have a timed admission system, this is the time you select when purchasing your ticket. For the best experience please arrive no more than 10 minutes before the entry time on your ticket.

The garden is also open on selected dates for guided tours in April and May. The State Rooms are open on selected dates in May and June for guided tours

  • We suggest you allow 2-2½ hours for your visit.
  • Prebooking tickets is essential. There is a timed admission system operating on all tours. This is the time you select when purchasing your ticket.
  • If you already have your ticket, for the best experience please arrive at the entry time printed on your ticket and not earlier.
  • You are advised to wear comfortable shoes, as all events involve some walking.
  • When you arrive, you will pass through an airport-style security check. Read more about security & luggage
  • You can take photographs in the Palace Gardens, but not within the State Rooms. Read more about photography, filming & mobile phones.
  • Eating and drinking aren't allowed inside the Palace, with the exception of bottled water, but during the summer picnicking is available on the Palace lawn. Read more about picnicking.
  • Toilets and baby-care facilities are available at the visitor entrance or in the garden depending on your tour.
  • For safety reasons, pushchairs cannot be taken into the State Rooms. They must be checked in and collected after your tour, but may be used within the garden. Read more about visiting with children.
  • Animals, other than guide, hearing or assistance animals, will not be admitted to the Palace or Garden.

By underground

Victoria, Green Park, St. James's Park and Hyde Park Corner.  For further information visit the Transport for London website.

By coach / bus

Bus numbers 11, 211, C1 and C10 stop on Buckingham Palace Road.  Victoria Coach Station is a 10-minute walk from the Palace.

You will be free to wander around the garden’s winding paths at your own pace and experience the beauty and calm of this walled oasis in central London. Among the many features to discover are the 156-metre Herbaceous Border, the Horse Chestnut Avenue, the Plane trees planted by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and the famous lake with its island that is home to the Buckingham Palace bees.

Group visits to Buckingham Palace must be pre-booked, either online or over the phone.

Coach parking

Coaches can pick up passengers after they exit the Palace on Grosvenor Place. There is no coach parking near Buckingham Palace.

Guiding

Guiding isn't allowed at Buckingham Palace. Visitors can enjoy a free multimedia tour, available in nine languages.

Schools

Bring the curriculum to life with a visit to Buckingham Palace during the summer. We offer a range of interactive workshops, tours, learning activities and resources for nursery, primary and secondary pupils. Our school visit information will help teachers and organisers plan their visit.

School activities at Buckingham Palace are published each spring and take place during the summer. Throughout the rest of the year we offer school sessions at the Royal Mews and The Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace.

Access and Mobility

The State Rooms of Buckingham Palace, and the gardens, are fully accessible. The garden has hard gravel paths and lawn. There is a slight lip between the path and the lawn. Concessionary rates are available for you if you have a disability and an accompanying companion will be admitted free of charge. No proof of disability is required. In line with government policy you should, if you are not exempt, wear a face covering whilst visiting our inside spaces. Accessible toilets and limited seating are available and registered assistance dogs are welcome. A number of Wardens are Dementia Friends. There are no parking facilities.
