10 Mar 1863

RCIN 920999

The Prince and Princess of Wales (the future King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra) spent their one-week honeymoon at the royal residence of Osborne House on the Isle of Wight. The newlyweds travelled from Windsor to Portsmouth before crossing the Solent in the Royal Yacht, which is shown here passing in front of six illuminated ships at Spithead. Spectacular firework displays continued into the night.
