The Flora Danica service

This service was made by the Royal Copenhagen Manufactury, with the designs based on the Danish botanical work Flora Danica, begun in 1761 and consisting of 3,240 engravings of all the native plants then growing in the kingdom of Denmark.

It was a wedding gifting from the people of Denmark for the marriage of Princess Alexandra, a Danish princess, to Edward, Prince of Wales (he future Edward VII) in 1863. The set has subsequently been added to with a further wedding gift, this time for the marriage of Queen Elizabeth II to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. The design itself is still in production.
