The Wedding Cake of the Prince and Princess of Wales

10 Mar 1863

RCIN 2905626

Photograph of the wedding cake of the Prince and Princess of Wales, later King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. The cake is elaborately iced and is decorated with flowers.

The Prince of Wales married Princess Alexandra of Denmark at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, on 10th March 1863. There were actually two cakes prepared, as the number of guests meant that there were two wedding breakfasts - Royal guests in the State Dining Room, the diplomatic corps in St George's Hall. A cake was needed for each.
