This large and extravagant oval frame made for Mrs. Richards's self-portrait is notable for the frieze of red velvet that is underneath the scrolling acanthus.

Made by J. & W. Vokins in 1853 for seven guineas, the picture and frame resided at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight
