A display highlighting the interaction between the monarchy and the wider world

The mythical garuda bird is the national emblem of Indonesia. It appears here carrying the Hindu deity, Vishnu, its tail forming a canopy over his head. The statuette is made from ebony wood from the island of Sulawesi (formerly Celebes) in Indonesia.
It was presented to Queen Elizabeth II by the Indonesian Ambassador to Australia on during Her Majesty’s visit to Australia, 1970.
