Standing figure of Dewi Sri

c.1974

RCIN 92648

A dark Makassar ebony wooden carving of Dewi Sri, goddess of rice and fertility, on a base, holding leaves, wearing headress with necklace and earrings, full length.

Dewi Sri is recognised across many parts of Indonesia where rice forms the staple diet. Shrines to her are constructed in wet rice fields and offerings made at important times in the harvest cycle.
