A display highlighting the interaction between the monarchy and the wider world

Dewi Sri is the goddess of rice and fertility. She is honoured across many parts of Indonesia where rice forms the staple diet. Shrines to her are constructed in wet rice fields and offerings made at important times in the harvest cycle. This sculpture is made from Makassar ebony, a dark hardwood endemic to Indonesia.
It was presented to Queen Elizabeth II by the Governor of Bali during the State Visit to Indonesia, 15 March 1974
