    This tall wine glass, though to have originally been one of a pair, is thought to be a souvenir of the wedding in 1734 of Anne, Princess Royal, to William, Prince of Orange. Princess Anne was the eldest daughter of George II, and her marriage, in the Chapel Royal at St James's Palace, marked a significant political alliance for England with one of the leading Protestant leaders on the Continent.

    The glass itself also illustrates this alliance. The wine glass is an example of the emerging Newcastle lead glass industry, and, as with many examples from that region, may have been shipped to the Netherlands to be engraved.
