1761

RCIN 25159

The marriage of George III and Queen Charlotte took place at St James's Palace, London on 8 September 1761. Their union is the subject of this fan, with portrait roundels of the couple being supported by allegorical figures probably representing Fame and the Arts. Personifications of Commerce and Liberty, and Britannia and Neptune oversee the scene on either side.
