George III's sons

Ernst Ausgustus, A View of Windsor town and Castle©

All of George III and Queen Charlotte's children had drawing lessons as part of their education. The children were taught by several different artists, such as Joshua Kirby (who had also taught their father) and John Alexander Gresse. The younger princes were also taught by the watercolour painter Alexander Cozens, the drawing-master at Eton College from 1763 to 1768. For some of the princes, these early drawing lessons were to prove useful for military and naval careers but unlike their sisters, the sons of George III seem to have largely abandoned their artistic pursuits in adulthood.
