Model veena

1990-97

RCIN 94120

The veena is a classical stringed instrument from southern India. It is closely associated with Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of music and learning, who is often depicted playing it. As the strings are plucked, they vibrate against the flat bridge, producing a distinctive buzzing sound known as javārī

Presented to Queen Elizabeth II on her visit to Chennai by Justice MS. M Fathima Beevi, Governor of Tamil Nadu, 16 October 1997.
