Boomerang

In 1927, The Duke and Duchess of York (later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth) undertook a two-month tour of Australia. The purpose of their visit was to open the first Parliament in Australia’s new capital, Canberra. In his address to Parliament, The Duke of York said, ‘May this day’s ceremony mark the rededication of this Commonwealth to those great ideals of liberty, fair-dealing, justice and devotion to the cause of peace’. This boomerang was presented to the royal couple during the tour by the Trustees of the Australian Museum. It is associated with the indigenous peoples of the Macquarie River area, New South Wales.
