School Resources: Exploring Art and Empire through the Royal Collection

TEACHER’S INSTRUCTIONS
 
This lesson is designed to deepen students’ understanding of the British Empire, and enhance their source analysis and evaluation skills.


A.     Begin by showing students two short videos (ten minutes in total) to provide context. 
B.    Then divide students into groups or assign them individual sources for analysis using the student cards. 
C.    Guide them to examine the source to answer the enquiry question: How does the artist seek to represent the British rule over India during the British Raj?
