Hardback, 245 x 245mm, 64 pages, 35 illustrations.

In terms of artistic achievement, Roger Fenton and Julia Margaret Cameron are probably the two most important British photographers of the nineteenth century. This book illustrates Queen Victoria’s own set of Cameron’s remarkable portraits alongside Fenton’s images of Windsor Castle and the royal children, which together provide a glimpse into a life ordinarily hidden from public view.

Sophie Gordon is Curator of the Royal Photograph Collection, and has published widely on nineteenth- and early twentieth-century photography, most recently with The Heart of the Great Alone: Scott and Shackleton and Antarctic Photography (2009).
