For the first time, groups can visit the private apartments once used by Queen Elizabeth II when in residence at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.

Queen Elizabeth II Private Apartment Tours will be available only in 2026 as part of celebrations marking the centenary of Queen Elizabeth II’s birth.

In the company of an expert guide, your group will discover the history of the rooms and learn how they were used by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, during her 70-year reign.

Visitors will see the Royal Breakfast Room, where the Queen and Prince Philip would dine privately while in residence, and the Sitting Room where the late Queen would work, reviewing the papers and documents presented in the Government red despatch boxes.

In the Dressing Room visitors will see three ensembles from the Queen’s wardrobe, each worn during a significant occasion in Edinburgh.

The guided tour of the Private Apartments will be combined with a self-guided visit to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, where your group can explore the rich history of the Palace including the Throne Room and Mary, Queen of Scots’ historic chambers using the free multimedia guide.
