    East Garden Terrace, Windsor Castle©

The East Terrace Garden at Windsor Castle is open to visitors at weekends this summer for only the second time in decades. You can explore the garden and enjoy the view across the surrounding Windsor parkland.

The large formal garden, created by George IV in the 1820s, is overlooked by Windsor Castle’s famous east façade and features clipped domes of yew and beds of roses planted in a geometric pattern around a central fountain. In 1971 The Duke of Edinburgh redesigned the flowerbeds and commissioned the bronze lotus fountain based on his own design for the centre of garden.

Family friendly art activities for children are also available.

Please note, due to the current need for social distancing, places for the activities are limited and will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

    Practical information
    • In the event of wet weather, the East Terrace Garden extra activities will not run.

    • Entrance to the East Terrace Garden closes at 16:00.

    • Whilst it is not possible for wheelchair users to access the East Terrace Garden, they can get a good view of the area from the Terrace itself.

    • Regrettably, the East Terrace Garden is not suitable for pushchairs. Pushchairs can be left in the secure cloakroom at the entrance to the State Apartments or on the Terrace above the East Terrace Garden.

All events at Windsor Castle will be managed in line with COVID-secure procedures. Please see our Welcome Back page for more information.
