Due to popular demand, we are delighted to repeat this hand embroidery course, in collaboration with the Royal School of Needlework. The motif is inspired by Queen Elizabeth II’s wedding dress, currently on display in Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style at the King's Gallery, Buckingham Palace.
Your day will begin with a highlights tour of the show and a focus on Queen Elizabeth II’s wedding dress with Surveyor of The King’s Works of Art and exhibition curator, Caroline de Guitaut. Designed by Sir Norman Hartnell and unveiled to the world in 1947, the gown remains an enduring symbol of post‑war optimism, craftsmanship, and regal elegance. Then RSN tutor and designer, Claire de Waard will teach you how to stitch this stunning motif highlighting many of the beadwork and embroidery techniques visible on the wedding dress.
Hand embroidery techniques will include:
• Beading over satin and tulle
• String padding + beading over
• Beaded stem stitch in the round
• Cut fabric and tulle insert
• Silk ribbon wrapped beads
Important Information
This class is suitable for all levels. All the stitches and techniques will be covered by the tuition and your kit will include a detailed instruction booklet to enable you to complete the design after the class.
You may like to bring your own battery operated magnifiers but please do not bring scissors as you will be able to borrow ring frames and scissors on the day.
Tea/coffee will be provided during a short break in the morning. Please bring a packed lunch and any drinks you may require during the day. We will have a lunch break at approximately 1pm-1.30pm.
