The Menin Road

1919

RCIN 2943162

In this view of the Menin Road, Ypres, the dirt road is covered in mud and puddles and surrounded by the burnt out remains of trees. On the left side of the photograph stands a solitary figure, seen from behind.

The Menin Road was the scene of the Battle of the Menin Road Ridge, the third British attack of the Battle of Ypres in World War I. The battle took place between 20 and 25 September 1917.
