Prince Albert and his brother grew up with their own aviary and Albert brought ornamental birds with him to England in 1840. From 1842 he began to remodel the royal Aviary at Windsor. It accommodated varieties of poultry, as well as doves, bustards, storks and pheasants. A sitting room was provided for the Queen’s use.
