Described by Ruskin as a ‘brilliant’ naval artist, Brierly was frequently commissioned to record maritime events for the Queen. This review, here depicted from the Royal Yacht Victoria and Albert, marked the return of the Navy from the Crimea. Brierly had worked in the Crimea as a war artist for the Illustrated London News.
