A distant view of Potsdam at sunset

RCIN 920706

Graeb’s luminous watercolour was commissioned as a record of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s trip to Potsdam in August 1858. There they visited their eldest daughter, Vicky, who was expecting her first child. The view shows the city of Potsdam from the park at Schloss Babelsberg.

Commissioned by Prince Albert and presented to Queen Victoria at Christmas 1858
