? William Roy (1726-90)
Map of march routes, 1756, England, South c.1756 or later
RCIN 731071
In May 1756 troops from Hanover and Hesse were stationed in southern England in case of French invasion. Their presence was deeply unpopular. This small map is probably by William Roy, a key member of the survey of Scotland, who was at the time one of a team surveying parts of southern England in response to the French threat.
