These 18 gatherings of Sanskrit texts were among the earliest Hindu religious manuscripts to arrive in Britain. John Walsh, a former East India Company officer, presented them to George III in 1784. He accompanied the gift with an outline of his criticisms of Warren Hastings (whose portrait is in this section).
