DANIEL SEGHERS (ANTWERP 1590-ANTWERP 1661)

A Relief Embellished with a Garland of Roses

1640s

RCIN 405615

Daniel Seghers specialised in flower paintings of this type. He became a Jesuit in 1614, and appears to have worked exclusively on floral works after this date. The central relief of the Virgin Mary would have been added by another artist, thereby illustrating the collaborative nature of such images.
