A Boy Looking through a Casement

c.1550-60

RCIN 404972

The identity of the artist and the subject of this jovial painting are unknown. Probably painted to be fitted into a shutter, the window is realistically depicted with lead partitions. Disconcertingly the boy appears to tap his finger against the glass to attract the viewer’s attention.
