George III was a keen bibliophile

SIR WALTER SCOTT (1771–1832)

Minstrelsy of the Scottish border, consisting of historical and romantic ballads, collected in the southern counties of Scotland, vol. I

1802

RCIN 1050426

This was the second publication by Walter Scott and the first to demonstrate his passion for the history and folklore of Scotland. It consists of a collection of ballads from the Scottish borders. It is interesting that Scott featured in George III’s collection so early in his career. He would go on to become a favourite writer of George IV.
