The Libraries of George III

George III was a keen bibliophile

History

In his role as Sovereign, George III needed to keep up to date with the histories and politics of European nations. History is by far the largest section of the Windsor library catalogue. This includes gazetteers of Britain and Europe, atlases, road maps, general and specialised histories, treatises on social concerns, biographies, accounts of voyages and the works of classical historians. This provided the king with an overview of the most current developments occurring around the world.
