The outward show of Jubilees has remained much the same throughout the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, with local parties and processions, new monuments, concerts and visits from Queen Elizabeth II to all parts of the UK and to 36 other nations.

The ‘Jubilee Days’ were centred on 4 June, Queen Elizabeth II official birthday, marked with a Service of Thanksgiving as well as street parties and fireworks.

In a change from previous Royal Jubilees, many of the gifts presented were home-made or reflected local traditions. A number of buildings, parks and monuments were named for the occasion, including the Jubilee line on the London Underground.
