LEWIS

Model Lewis gun

1918

RCIN 69459

6 July 1918 was King George V and Queen Mary's silver wedding anniversary. The royal couple asked Britons to donate any gold and silver they could to the British Red Cross for the care of the sick and wounded; however some gifts were still received. This model of a Lewis gun was presented to the King by Colonel Alfred G Lucas, who had been involved in recruitment for the Norfolk Regiment.
