Bainbridge, the manager of Fabergé's London branch from 1907–15, describes how, in his constant search for new pieces to add to Queen Alexandra's collection, he sent photographs of Sandringham House to Fabergé. A little while later a box arrived with an enamelled view of Sandringham House and grounds in its lid. Although Bainbridge claimed to be the inspiration behind the design of this and other boxes and frames decorated with views of royal residences, it is likely that such a scheme would also have involved the king and possibly the queen.
