Henry VIII's Armour

A closer look at the impressive armour garniture of Henry VIII

Henry VIII armour

This suit of armour was made for Henry VIII, one of the most iconic and famous Kings of England. It is known as a garniture – an armour that includes interchangeable pieces designed to make it adaptable for different uses, such as sporting tournaments and battle.

In this film, Royal Collection Armourer Simon Metcalf, tells us how the suit was made and why it is considered one of the most important armours in the Collection.

You can see the armour up close in the Lantern Lobby on your visit to Windsor Castle.
