This style was at the height of fashion during the reign of Queen Anne (1665-1714), but came into the Collection around the turn of the eighteenth century. The Queen Anne Bolection is a more varied reverse-section frame that is most recognisable by its gadrooned knull and ornamented sight and back edges.

They first came into use during the end of William III (1650-1702) and Mary II's (1662-94) reign and continued through into George I's (1660-1727), and have since returned to the Collection as composition reproductions in the nineteenth century.
