CARL GEORG ANTON GRAEB (1816-84)

The Small Knights' Hall, Schloss Stolzenfels

dated 1847

Pencil, watercolour and bodycolour | 31.5 x 37.5 cm (whole object) | RCIN 920422

This watercolour was part of an album of views of Germany, presented to the royal couple by the King of Prussia two years after their tour. In her letter of thanks, Victoria said that the gift reminded her of ʻall the charming placesʼ they had visited in Prussia. At Stolzenfels Castle, on the Rhine, they enjoyed tea and supper in this hall, painted with scenes from German medieval history.
