From the age of thirteen, Victoria kept a detailed diary (which she called her journal). As well as recording her experiences in writing, she also often made small sketches in the margins of the pages. While the majority of Victoria’s diary is known through a copy in the Royal Archives at Windsor Castle, made by her daughter Princess Beatrice, the queen’s sketches or doodles were carefully cut out by Beatrice and preserved. They give us a unique sense of Victoria's own perspective on her extraordinary life.
