Amongst the more modern holdings of Shakespeare’s works in the Royal Library is this Kelmscott Press edition of the poems and sonnets. The Kelmscott Press, run by the arts-and-crafts designer William Morris (1834 – 1896), aimed to produce printed books in an aesthetically-pleasing, late-medieval German style, in contrast to the ordinary, machine-made books of the day.
