MARCUS ADAMS (1875-1959)

HM Queen Elizabeth (b. 1926), when Princess Elizabeth of York, 22 January 1931

22 Jan 1931

RCIN 2943711

The Princess is wearing a necklace given to her by Queen Mary – a diamond pendant with a pearl drop, on a gold chain. When talking about his work during a broadcast in 1939, Adams said: The one essential of a perfect picture is simplicity. The delightful simplicity of a child calls for a simple pictorial statement. The child should be the dominant part of your composition, and nothing in the way of clutter and furniture is necessary.
