Poetry recitals

The paintings in this album are in a style known as nim-qalam (half-pen). They are effectively line drawings, minimally coloured with light washes. The artist La’l has here produced two contrasting depictions of poetry recitals. One is in an Iranian style, the other in the style of a sixteenth-century European engraving.
