Reassembling the object
The reassembly process
The treatment has strengthened the book and left it in a condition which will allow it to be handled and safely displayed to benefit future generations. It has given an indication of how magnificent the book originally looked.
With the rebinding almost complete the new polyester extensions of the conserved silk ribbons were pulled through the holes in the book’s boards and pasted down.
Once the extensions to the silk ribbons were pasted inside book board the endpapers were then carefully pasted over the top.
