Warden at Windsor Castle
Working for us

Find out about our huge range of roles and what it's like working for Royal Collection Trust

Danielle, Curator of Books and Manuscripts

Based at Windsor Castle, the Royal Library and Royal Archives sections look after significant historic collections that form the documentary and intellectual heritage of the Monarchy. These collections span nearly 2½ millennia, from Egyptian Papyri to the latest work on political history, and run to millions of pages, many unique, and many encapsulating some of the most extraordinary moments in British history. As well as books, manuscripts and archives, we are responsible for the collections of insignia, coins, commemorative medals, seals and bank notes.

We support the work of Royal Collection Trust through exhibitions, publications and research.  For example, major projects are currently underway to digitise the Georgian and Stuart Papers in the Royal Archives, in partnership with King's College London, which will encourage far wider use of these hugely important resources in academic research.

We work very closely with the Director of Records' team within the Private Secretary's Office to meet the challenges of dealing with library and archive material in the digital age. We also work with the other departments of the Royal Household, for example, creating displays of items for Her Majesty The Queen's guests at official occasions, such as State Visits.

The skills required in the Library and Archives team are diverse and cover all aspects of modern-day library and archives management, including curatorial, academic, project-management and digital-preservation skills.
