A prayer on stressful occasions

The Arabic verse written in large-scale calligraphy is an intercessory prayer to Ali (the son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad and the first Imam of the Shi’a). It is recited at times of stress or anxiety.
The poem accompanying the painting on the right suggests the anxieties of an old man contemplating youthful beauty.
