Royal children by Liotard

Liotard records the royal children with astonishing directness, perhaps helped by the medium of pastel, which is lighter in tone than oil and has sketch-like freshness and informality. George III succeeded his grandfather, George II, in 1760; his two sisters depicted here did not live beyond their teenage years. From a set of eleven commissioned in 1754 by Augusta, Princess of Wales Cats 242, 243 and 244
