A dazzling treasure: The Darnley Jewel

The Darnley Jewel, and a portrait of Mary, Queen of Scots in mourning is prepared to go on display at the National Museum of Scotland.©

This jewelled locket is around 450 years old and is made of gold, red ruby, green emerald, blue glass and enamel. It is covered with symbols and has a fascinating story, which you can hear about in this film with Deborah Clarke, Senior Curator at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
