Financial Papers and Abstracts

Prince Albert (1819-61) is known to have played a key role in reforming royal finances and this selection of Privy Purse papers reflects his involvement in managing financial affairs.

Included are a miscellaneous collection of Privy Purse papers, abstracts of quarter and annual statements and statements of expenditure that relate to the department of the Lord Steward and Cumberland Lodge in Windsor Great Park, of which Prince Albert held the post of Ranger. There are also a number of papers relating to individual expenses, including rough sketches of the expected income and expenditure of Prince Albert, a document regarding the repayment of a loan by Prince Albert and his brother Ernest, Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1818-93) and papers relating to the Duchess of Kent’s (1786-1861) financial affairs.
