Parliamentary Reform

A collection of documents relating to the progress and setbacks of proposals for parliamentary reform in the period of 1851-1861.

After the introduction of the Great Reform Act of 1832 numerous attempts were made throughout the 1850s to introduce further reform. Prince Albert (1819-61) took great interest in the subject and this collection consists of correspondence from various MPs reporting on parliamentary debates and seeking the advice and approval of both Queen Victoria (1819-1901) and Prince Albert.
