A collection of documents predominantly consisting of correspondence from Prince Albert (1819-61) to Lord John Russell (1792-1878) and covering the years 1846-1861.

During Prince Albert’s lifetime, Lord John Russell held various offices in government, including Prime Minister from June 1846 to February 1852, and Foreign Secretary from December 1852 to February 1853. A variety of subjects are covered within this collection, including diplomatic relations with Rome, Prussia, France, Denmark and Austria, Queen Victoria’s visit to Ireland in August 1849, Princess Alice’s marriage in 1861, Royal Household affairs, as well as parliamentary and university reform.
