This series of digital events will be livestreamed via our YouTube channel. Unlike for our other digital events, there is no need to reserve a ticket in advance. Watch the video live on the Royal Collection Trust YouTube channel.

In the week of Burns Night, join us for this celebration of Scotland's national poet, focusing on the 'Tam O'Shanter' chair on display in the Great Gallery, at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Our experts will discuss this extraordinary, gothic-style armchair, made  from a portion of the roof of the old Kirk of Alloway, Ayrshire which serves as the setting for Burns’s celebrated poem Tam O’Shanter, written in 1790.

During this event, you will also get an opportunity to examine the rarely-seen back of the chair, inlaid with four brass panels engraved with the poem Tam O’Shanter and painted with Tam riding his horse.

Our expert's conversation will also broaden to include other items relating to Robert Burns which are part of the Royal Collection but not typically on display in the Royal Palaces, giving viewers a unique opportunity to learn more about these diverse and fascinating objects.

The income from your ticket contributes directly to The Royal Collection Trust, a registered charity. The aims of The Royal Collection Trust are the care and conservation of the Royal Collection, and the promotion of access and enjoyment through exhibitions, publications, loans and educational activities.
