Join Sian Cooksey, Collections Information Officer, for a dive into Queen Alexandra's interest in photography. In this lecture, Sian will discuss Queen Alexandra’s photographic work currently in the exhibition The Edwardians: Age of Elegance, in particular the delightful 1893 Norway album featuring her watercolours and photographs. Being a trend-setter, Queen Alexandra helped to popularise the brand-new Kodak camera and had some of her ‘bull’s eye’ snaps turned into reproductions on a tea set, so Sian will take an in-depth look at these as well as her later exhibition work. Alexandra’s work will also be contextualised in relation to female professional photographers of this period.
