Join artist Graeme Mortimer Evelyn in conversation with exhibition curator Dr Kate Heard as they discuss how Holbein continues to inspire and inform artists today.
Chaired by Head of Prints and Drawings Martin Clayton, our speakers will consider how Holbein chooses to convey his sitters in a selection of the portraits on display within the exhibition.
Kate and Graeme will discuss the objects and clothing Holbein depicts in his portraits, and how his choices compare to Graeme's experiences of framing the subject within his own artistic process to create his striking portraits, a selection of which are included in the carousel of images below.
Their discussion will also look to explore how Holbein was able to navigate the Tudor court as an artist and an outsider during such a pivotal historical period. They will consider how contemporary artists might learn from Holbein's incredible journey to success in order to tread what can often be a similarly challenging path even today.
