To mark National Gardening Week, and for our first weekend open this year, we’re all about the great outdoors and exploring the glorious gardens of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, past and present!

    Felt Thistle Flower
Find out about some plants and flowers with special royal connections while making your own thistle flower out of felt. As you explore the Palace see if you can spot thistles and other special royal plants in architecture, decoration, furniture or paintings.

    Story of the Gardens
With almost 900 years of history and use right up to the modern day there are plenty of stories to tell about the gardens. Join us for this drop in event to discover the history of this special place.

    Nature Sketchbook
Pick up a nature sketchbook and take your pencil for a walk around the gardens to help you take in the sights, sounds and smells of this Royal garden

    Origami Menagerie
Discover tales of the long lost Royal Menagerie from 500 years ago, when lions roared in the Palace grounds. Create your own mini menagerie as you make an origami wolf, bear, bird or lion to take home.

These activities will be delivered as drop-in events to one household at a time. Please see our FAQs for more details on our Covid-secure procedures in place.
